Designer, creative leaderSeattle and Vashon Island

Agencies and nonprofits, two businesses I co-founded, and a studio of my own on Vashon Island.

I studied photography and business. I still use both: how a thing looks, and whether it works.

Story

At Creature I was interactive and technical director. That meant the Space Needle website, interactive storefronts, and helping rethink the visit inside the tower.

At Hornall Anderson I directed experience and interactive work for Alaska Airlines, Carnival, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Golden State Warriors.

Across both agencies, clients ran from NBA teams to start-ups and nonprofits. Most of the time the job was helping people understand a new technology or a new place before they had to use it.

In 2016 I co-founded Good Weather Bicycle Co. on Capitol Hill. We built the brands, the sites, and the shop experience, added a cafe that later became Tailwind, and grew to about thirteen people.

We ran a weekly staff profit share and sold both businesses in 2026. Running them showed me how customers use a place day to day, and I design with that in mind.

In 2020 I started Waterman Made, a design and fabrication studio on Vashon. Powder coat, Cerakote, and wet paint finishing for architects, fabricators, and product makers, plus Stunt Doubles, an object line with Smith.

Now I lead the website redesign at the Washington State Department of Revenue. I also do finishing work on Vashon and build tools for my own work, including Wick, a memory system for AI agents.

How I work
  • Explain it in their language

A board, a build team, and a shop owner each need their own version of the idea. I make it, as a deck or a prototype.

  • Prototype with AI

A sketch, a material sample, a model, or a working prototype built with AI, so a team can try the idea before anyone commits.

  • Mind the budget

Co-owning two businesses taught me to design with the budget and the competition in view.

  • Stay through the build

I break the idea into clear, practical steps and stay close while it gets built, in steel, in code, or in a room full of people.
